Happy Birthday Daddy Bee

Daddy Bee is having a birthday today.  This is the day when he catches up to my age for the rest of the year.

I am six months older than my handsome hubby, something our little boy B'ees think is strange.

They don't understand how Daddy can be taller than Mommy and Mommy is older.

Go figure.  A life mystery.

We decided to have a birthday luncheon for Daddy Bee.  This of course sounds like a soiree, but the luncheon included our two older B'ees (because Baby Bee was napping) and a cat sitting under our outdoor table.

A Few Words for Wednesday

Though you’ll be growing up, my dear,
And leaving me someday,
These little footprints on the walk
Will never run away.
I’ll keep them here forever, in
This special place, apart,
Just like the little footprints you
Have left upon my heart.

Little Sayings that Mean A Lot

It is not until you become a mother that your judgment slowly turns to compassion and understanding.

~Erma Bombeck~

I really like this quote by Erma Bombeck, because I can see how it is true in my life as a Mommy.

Before children the sounds of a little one's screams in a crowded restaurant did not magically pass through my "Mommy Brain Noise Filter."

Being a Mom helps us have an instant understanding of what other parents around us may be going through on any day.

Having children is truly like having your heart walk around outside of your body and it urges us to love more and connect with others.

Cauliflower Cheddar Casserole

Every week this spring and through the summer we are enjoying a fresh supply of veggies and fruit from Farmer John at the Vollmer Farm C.S.A

C.S.A. stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  We sign up for shares in the harvest and eating local really is a wonderful thing.

This week we had two types of cauliflower amid our bounty.  Here is a yummy and easy cauliflower recipe that is sure to be a crowd- pleaser.

Mismatched Mama

For all you moms who teeter on the seesaw of life:  mommies on one side, offspring on the other, here is a definite mommy moment or maybe a mommy brain moment.

After a frazzled attempt to arrive at the gym amid little boy whines about how they didn't want to go to the gym, echoing at the house and in the car, we finally made it to our destination.

I dropped off the kiddos in childcare and then went to change into my workout clothes.  Yes, success.

As I opened my gym bag to get out my fitness gear, I noticed two things not quite the same.

Raccoons In the Tent and Other Fears

Camping is a wonderful family activity.  It gets the kiddos and adults outside to really enjoy and connect with nature.

Studies show kids who connect with nature have less problems with hyperactivity and ADHD and are able to concentrate better.

A book called "Last Child in the Woods"  sheds light on something called Nature Deficit Disorder the truth of many children growing up totally disconnected from the outdoors.

Yes, nature seems to cause both a medicinal and therapeutic effect.

That is unless you are a 4 year old and scared stiff that raccoons will take over your camp site.

It's All About the Silly Bandz

Just a few weeks ago Mommy Message did a post on the Silly Bandz craze sweeping over our neighborhood.

Now the craze seems to be hitting many other parts of the country and here at the Mommy Message we can tell where the bandz are hot by the geographical hits we get on our site.

This week Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio are seeking out information on the plastic bracelet sensations.  Norway and England are also showing up

You're Gonna Miss This

What a wonderful Mother's Day.  It had all the elements of love, little boy love that is...  No beautiful china or girlie linens, but a yummy meal made by the Hubby Bee.

I had the pleasure of being an unwilling wrestling partner on the couch as two boys fought over who came out of my belly first and who was the fastest at "shooting" out of my belly.  Ah yes, it's Mother's Day, little boy style.

Working Mommy Wednesday

There is no little boy love on an out of town work trip.  Well there is Skype and phone call love, but not the real physical hugs.

No one to give me sweet sticky kisses and provide little paw prints of banana goo on my shirt.

It is day three and I'm missing..

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Our beautiful new garden fence is finished.  Just in time to keep the deer and bunnies at bay from our growing vegetables.  The fence is inspired by a picture of Martha Stewart's garden fence at one of her many homes.

My Dear Hubby Bee built the fence with an arched gate, copper fence caps and wire given to him by his beloved grandmother CeCe.  CeCe would definitely approved..
