Easter Resurrection Rolls

This is a really fun recipe.  We made these Easter Rolls, also called Resurrection Rolls, with the kids this week.  They were easy and great fun for the kids to make with their little hands.

The marshmallow represents Jesus and the roll the tomb.  After it bakes, the marshmallow melts and leaves an empty tomb.  The spices represent the anointing spices used for burial.

Many friends have told me they make these rolls on Easter morning.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (10 ounce) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 large marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

Directions:

  • Give each child one triangle shaped section of crescent roll. This represents the tomb.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Each child takes one marshmallow, which represents the body of Christ.
  • Dip the marshmallow in the melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Lay the marshmallow on the dough and carefully wrap it around the marshmallow.
  • Make sure all seams are pinched together well. (Otherwise the marshmallow will "ooze" out of the seams)
  • Bake according to package directions. (usually for 15 minutes or golden brown)
  • Cool.

We're in charge of bread for tomorrow's lunch... I think we'll make these! Thanks!

Heather, How sweet do these rolls end up being? Would they work as side rolls for something like chicken spaghetti or are they too sweet?

They are pretty sweet....Sort of like a morning roll..with the sweet marshmallow.

We tried these Saturday night...for our dessert. The boys took the symbolism a little too literally...as in, "Jesus melted!" Ha ha! Yeah, we didn't quite seal up our tombs well enough either, so "Jesus" indeed ended up oozing out the sides. But they were yummy, nonetheless. A neat idea! Thanks for sharing.
